Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on therapy that involves no manipulation and therefore is suitable for people of all ages, from newborn infants to the elderly.
The therapist uses very light touch to listen (via the hands) to what is happening in the body, in order to facilitate the natural process of self – healing in the body.
Craniosacral therapy is based on discoveries about the body’s subtle physiology,: Dr. W.G. Sutherland, an osteopath in the USA on 1931 observed a rhythmic movement (in the body) and determined this movement that is fundamental to life processes.
Dr Sutherland observed a regular motion of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) surrounding and cushioning the brain and spinal cord. This CSF motion manifests as a tide-like phenomenon throughout the body and expresses the fundamental life movement.
Dysfunction within the body will show up in the way that the craniosacral motion is expressed through the body.
Craniosacral therapists are trained to feeling the subtle craniosacral movements in the body and awakening the body's awareness to it's own patterns by mirroring them. Bringing up consciousness of the patterns which the body is holding on to, encourages the body's self- healing power to release them, thus improving overall health.
The craniosacral therapy helps balancing the central nervous system and has a strong influence in various problems.
Babies and children usually respond well to craniosacral therapy– usually more quickly than adults. Craniosacral treatment helps infants resolving trouble with sucking, breathing difficulties, colic, restlessness, irritability, and is strongly recommended after cesarean or traumatic birth.
The CST helps also in cases of Arthritis, Asthma, Autism, Back pain, Birth trauma, Bone/joint disorder, Breathing disorders, Bronchitis, Chronic fatigue, Colic, Digestive problems, Drug withdrawal, Dyslexia, Frozen shoulder, Headaches and migraines, Hormonal imbalances, Hyperactivity, Infertility, Insomnia, Menstrual pains, Muscular aches and pains, Nervous disorders, Post dental trauma, Rheumatism, Sciatica, Sinusitis, Spinal curvatures, Stress-related conditions, Stroke, TMJ/jaw problems, Trigeminal neuralgia, Visual disturbances, tinnitus, during pregnancy, after an operation, accident, fall or injury.
